There are several things to consider in order to help prevent hearing loss and other ear-related problems.
Noise protection is vital to conserving your hearing. Try to avoid extremely loud situations when possible, or when in excessive noise, use noise-reducing ear plugs or headphones. Exposure to sounds that are 85 dB or above can cause hearing loss.
Ototoxic Medications are drugs that have been found to cause hearing loss. If you currently take any medications, check with your doctor to ensure they are not ototoxic.
Water Protection is also very important to keeping your ears healthy. Swim plugs are an effective way to keep your ears dry when bathing or swimming, reducing chances of infection.
Cerumen Management (ear wax removal) might be needed from time to time. If you suspect ear wax blockage, contact your doctor or ENT physician. Also, if you are experiencing any other ear-related issues, such as infection, pain, dizziness or sudden hearing loss, please contact your doctor as soon as possible.
Otoscopy (inspection of the ear canal and eardrum) is necessary to check for impacted wax, infection, perforated eardrum or any other abnormalities.
Annual Hearing Screenings are recommended to make certain your hearing is within normal limits.
